The Lie of the “Quick Logo”: Why AI Templates Hurt More Than They Help
Scrolling through Instagram today, I saw an ad from Zoviz—a brand I’ve seen before, constantly pushing its AI-generated logo kits across social media. Their pitch? Speed. Accessibility. A “logo by tomorrow.”
Now, I’m not new to this. Canva’s built its empire on the same idea: making logo design accessible to the masses, turning it into a commodity. And listen—I don’t think there’s anything wrong with small business owners using tools when they have no budget. I get it. I’ve been there.
But here’s the problem: these tools aren’t just being marketed as accessible. They’re being sold as solutions. As beneficial to your business. And that’s where the damage begins.
Design Is Not a Checklist Item
The Zoviz ad I saw today was built around urgency—someone needing a logo by tomorrow, and Zoviz being the “solution.” But this kind of advertising pushes a dangerous narrative: that design is purely visual. That it’s something you just tick off a list.
Even if we ignore the fact that these AI-generated logos are visually weak, the real issue is deeper. It’s strategic. Because when design is treated as decoration, businesses end up with assets that don’t scale, don’t resonate, and don’t perform.
You get a logo that doesn’t work on embroidery. Doesn’t format well on digital or print. Has no consistent design language. No strategy. No audience consideration. No brand personality. Just random visuals picked from a template library.
Design Is Not Art. It’s Function.
This is where most people get it wrong. Design isn’t art. Art is meant to be seen. Design is meant to be used.
The difference is function. Design solves problems. It’s how your brand communicates trust, quality, and differentiation—especially when placed next to competitors.
When your logo is templated, generic, and disconnected from your market, it looks cheap. It makes your product or service look untrustworthy. And worst of all, it tells your audience that you didn’t care enough to invest in credibility.
The Real Cost of “Affordable” Design
I understand why business owners fall for these tools. They’re affordable. They’re fast. They promise results. But they don’t educate. They don’t guide. They don’t help you attract the people you actually want to work with.
They just tell you to tick the logo box and move on.
As a business owner myself, I feel this deeply. I remember starting out, not knowing what I was doing, being sold things with the promise that they’d help me. But they didn’t. They helped the seller. I had no structure. No direction. Just noise.
